Mpox

Clade I

On April 14, 2026, Statens Serum Institut confirmed the first case of a new mpox variant, clade Ib, in Denmark.The case involves a person who was infected outside Denmark through sexual contact and developed mild symptoms after returning. According to the Danish Health Authority, contact tracing has been carried out, and the person has not had close contact with others after returning to Denmark. Authorities state that the case does not change the current risk assessment, and the overall risk of infection in Denmark remains low

On April 14, 2026, San Francisco health oficials reported its first case of clade I mpox, according to the city’s Department of Public Health. The case involves an unvaccinated adult who was hospitalized and is now improving. The individual reported close contact with a person who had recently traveled internationally. Health officials state that the risk to the general public remains low and continue to monitor the situation.

 

Measles

US

As of April 17, 2026, the United States has reported 1,748 measles cases so far in 2026, according to the Center for Disease Control. In 2026, the age group 5-19 accounts for 51% of the cases (898), and children under 5 years account for 21% of the cases (366). Of the cases reported in 2026, 92% were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status and 6% of the cases have been hospitalized (98). A total of 4,036 measles cases and three deaths have been reported to date. 

According to CIDRAP, the latest update shows that the US measles outbreak may be slowing. However, new cases are still being reported across several states. Arizona confirmed six new cases (78 total), Texas reported four new infections (180 total), and North Dakota added two cases (33 total). Washington also reported four new cases, bringing its total to 37. Utah has reported 19 new cases, with over 400 cases in 2026 so far, while Minnesota has confirmed 16 cases this year. Meanwhile, South Carolina reported a travel-related case but remains on track to declare its outbreak over if no further local cases occur.

Canada

As of April 20, 2026, Canada has reported 871 measles cases in 2026, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. In 2026, 61% of the cases occurred in children (523). Manitoba accounts for 61% of the cases (529), and Alberta accounts for 31% of the cases (273) reported so far in 2026. 89% of the cases reported in 2026 were unvaccinated (773), and 6% required hospitalization. A total of 6,296 measles cases and two deaths have been reported to date.

 

Influenza

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on April 17, 2026, 143 pediatric influenza deaths have been reported in the United States during the 2025-2026 flu season. In the latest weekly influenza surveillance report, four additional child deaths linked to influenza were reported. 85% of the children who died were not fully vaccinated against influenza. 

H5N1

As of April 21, 2026, the Centers fxor Disease Control and Prevention has not reported any cases of person-to-person transmission of H5N1 in the United States. The total remains at 71 confirmed human cases and two deaths.
